A new weather warning from the Met Office warns to expect disruption as a result of Storm Lilian
Strong winds as a result of Storm Lilian could result in large waves and beach material thrown across Blackpool seafront, according to a new warning from the Met Office.
The yellow weather warning for wind, which is in place from 5am until 11am tomorrow (23 August) states that this issue along with flying debris could pose a risk to life.
Public transport could be affected and there is a chance of damage to buildings and power cuts, the warning states. A yellow weather warning is the lowest level of warning available to the Met Office.
The wider North West area is expected to be impacted, with routes such as the M6 and M55 'likely' to be affected.
A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "An area of strong winds associated with Storm Lilian is expected to move east across northern England during Friday morning.
"Whilst there remains some uncertainty about the details, some very strong winds are likely to develop, with gusts widely in the 50 to 60mph range, with a lower chance that a small core of winds gusting 65-75 mph, perhaps 80 mph, could push quickly east during the morning.
"These winds are likely to affect major routes such as the M6, A66 and A1(M), as well as potentially impacting infrastructure."
