A family has released a tribute to man who died after being attacked in his own home.

42-year-old Rob Kerr died within Blackpool Victoria Hospital after he arrived at A&E on September 7 with serious injuries. Mr Kerr died on Tuesday 17 September.

Blackpool Police say he was attacked at his home address in Coronation Street, Blackpool, between the late evening of Sunday 1 September and the early hours of Monday 2 September. It was five days before he went to hospital.

Mr Kerr's mother said: "Rob was my youngest son out of five siblings. He has two older brothers and younger sisters. He was a loving and caring person, and he would do anything for anyone. He was such a protective person, especially over me and his three children – two of them are now adults but his youngest is still a child. He loved each of them a lot.

"If anyone knows anything, could you please come forward and contact the Police. My son did not deserve any of this. We are left heartbroken."

A Home Office post-mortem examination has been carried out and the death is being treated as a homicide.

Four people were arrested in connection with the attack and a fifth person, a 22-year-old man from Blackpool, was arrested during Thursday (19 September) afternoon on suspicion of murder.

Police had previously arrested four men, aged 21, 27, 29 and 40. The 27-year-old man has been released without charge, while the three others have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector John McNamara, of the Force Major Investigation Team, said: “My thoughts remain with Rob Kerr’s family at this time. While we have arrested a number of people our enquiries are very much ongoing and I would appeal to anyone who has any information which could help us piece together the events that led to Mr Kerr being assaulted and ultimately losing his life, to come forward and speak to us.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 quoting log 1232 of September 14th.
