Mali Wright to spend nine years in prison for the manslaughter of Daniel Allsop. He set upon him in Bethesda Road in October last year. Allsop died from his injuries 48-hours later.
A former pro boxer has been jailed for an attack police say showed a 'shocking level of violence and brutality'.
Mali Wright, 30, was sentenced to nine years in prison for the attack which killed Daniel Allsop in Blackpool last autumn.
He was also jailed for a further five-and-a-half years for supplying Class A drugs - which police say was unrelated to the death of Mr Allsop.
Wright was found guilty of manslaughter after a two-week trial at Preston Crown Court last month.
The incident took place on October 2 last year, around 4.30pm, in Bethesda Road.
Police say it was an unprovoked attack which saw Wright punch Allsop so hard his ribs were broken and his spleen ruptured.
Allsop, 28, managed to run away but collapsed a short time later.
He was taken to Blackpool Victoria Hospital but died 48-hours later from his injuries.
Initially a murder investigation was launched but Wright was later charged with manslaughter.
Detective Chief Inspector Jill Riley, of the Lancashire Police major investigation team, said: “Mali Wright has been sent to prison for 14 and a half years, but this will not ease the pain suffered by Daniel’s family.
“Mali Wright’s actions have left a child without their dad, parents without their son and siblings without a brother.
“Mali Wright was a former boxer. He punched Daniel with a shocking level of violence and brutality. I am pleased with the sentence handed down on him today and just hope that this brings some degree of comfort and closure for Daniel’s family."
In a statement, Daniel Allsop's family, said: "Daniel was a very cheeky chap, he always had everyone laughing. He was always there with his quick-witted one-liners. Daniel had an absolute heart of gold and would do anything for anyone. he adored us- his mum and his siblings and we all adored him. Daniel was loved by all who met him.
"We as Daniel’s family have been devastated by the actions of Mali Wright on the 2nd October 2023. We have lost our son and brother and we will never get over that. Daniel was ours and we will always love and remember him. We are now grateful that justice has been served for Daniel and he can now rest in peace. We can now as a family grieve, move forward and remember him."
