Raise the rate of Statutory Sick Pay

Increase sick pay so everyone can afford to recover from illness and injury.

Statutory Sick Pay, at just £116.75 per week or £3 an hour, is too low to be safe.

No one wants to take time off work sick, but sick pay is supposed to be a lifeline when we desperately need it. The last thing people with illnesses like cancer, chronic fatigue or a mental health problem need is to be forced into work - or else risk falling behind on bills.

One day, each of us, our family or friends could become seriously ill and need time off work. Or we could catch a contagious disease like the flu, and have to go into work and risk contaminating our colleagues. The dangerously low rate of Sick Pay is a cliff edge none of us should be forced to face.

To make things worse, the Government's current plans will reduce sick pay for up to 1.3 million people. You can see more about this in The Lead's story and newsletter exploring the issue.

We have an urgent opportunity to change this through the Employment Rights Bill. Please sign the petition and show your support for #SafeSickPay and put pressure on Minister of State (Department for Work and Pensions), Alison McGovern MP, to take action.

The Lead and the Safer Sick Pay campaign are joining forces urging the government the make the change needed to support some of society's most vulnerable workers. Sign below!
