Warrington is now represented by two Labour MPs after the party enjoyed a hugely successful General Election.

Charlotte Nichols held onto her Warrington North seat with a big win - collecting almost double the votes as second placed Reform - but the change came in Warrington South as Sarah Hall defeated incumbent Andy Carter.

Hall enjoyed an even bigger margin of victory, with her 23,000 votes leaving Carter in a distant second with 11,000. The results follow a strong performance in the recent local elections which saw Labour extend its majority on Warrington Council.

Speaking after the result was announced, Hall said: “I am stunned and I also feel very lucky and very privileged and also feel the weight of responsibility on my shoulder. There’s a lot of people who’ve been saying don’t let us down and I fully intend not to let anyone down.

“I’m going to work tirelessly for every person in Warrington South in all of the wards.”

Hall, who was supported at the count by her father-in-law and former Warrington South MP Mike Hall, listed her priorities as including children’s mental health and SEND services as well as helping to tackle the leasehold scandal.

Across the country, Labour won a historic landslide that saw a generational change in The Houses of Parliament. Keir Starmer will now become the Prime Minister.

Labour rebuilt much of its so-called ‘red wall’ that it lost in 2019 when Boris Johnson won his majority - though it was not without losing some seats, such as Blackburn and Islington North, to independent candidates.

Writing on social media after Starmer was confirmed as Prime Minister, Nichols said: “Thank you to everyone in Warrington North who put their trust in me and in Labour, as we have now officially passed the threshold to form the new Government.

“Whether you voted for me or not, I am here in your service and that work continues afresh tomorrow!

The election also proved to be a success for The Liberal Democrats, The Green Party and Reform UK, who all made gains.
